Grilling is fun

Lamb chops with farro (and dried cherries and pecans) and---very exciting---fiddleheads. Tis the season for those.

And a steak salad (tomatoes, asparagus, onion, mixed greens, feta).

Cottage cooking...

has its challenges.


First, baked chicken with a farro salad. Note the loon plate. Loon turned at an awkward angle, but still visible.

And some beer bread, alone and then (half-eaten) as a snack with some berries.

And finally whitefish—caught by Carlson's of Leland, of course—with charred corn salad and some wild rice with asparagus, toasted almonds, and cherries. 

All of this in a pan-challenged, stove-challenged environment...

Wine-tasting, reds and whites, a flight of each, at the Georis winery in the Carmel Valley.

Favorite white: 2012 Sauvignon Blanc.

Favorite red: 2010 Petites Vignes Cabernet Sauvignon.

Second favorite red: the more expensive 2009 Georis Estate "La Chapelle."
